Florida Keys Tarpon fishing
Florida keys Tarpon fishing kicks off around March and runs until early fall. Tarpon also called the silver king migrate along the Florida keys moving across our flats in schools sometimes in the hundreds. Seeing these fish is no problem as they move across large areas of white sand bottom and clear water. We also fish local bridges and channels with live bait which is as easy as it gets to catching one of these beast. Just one tarpon hooked up will make anyone come back to the keys to fish them year after year, as they can make a 150yd run in a very short time and with 100lbs of fish jumping about eye level will make anyone understand why they are called the silver king. Fly fishing for Florida keys Tarpon is considered to be one of the ultimate Big Game challenge.
Bonefishing in the Florida keysThe Grey ghost, bonefish live in our shallow flats year around as long as the water temps are warm enough. We fish bonefish anywhere there is good current and shallow waters, sometimes as shallow as 4-5 inches of water. Stealth is the name of the game here as these fish are super spooky and a well placed cast is what it takes to catch Mr. Bonefish. To see a school of 5 or 6 bonefish feeding in 8 inches of water with their tails sticking out of the water is why I go and fish for bones on my days off. Bonefishing in the Florida keys with a Fly Rod can be a challenge but a well placed cast with the fly in front of the fish gets rewarded.
Permit The Holy Grail of the flats, to catch a permit on the flats is like winning the super bowl. Permit can be found just about anywhere and are found year around. This fish is very smart and very spooky which makes them very hard to catch, but with some luck and a well placed cast permit will eat. Fly or live bait they are a challenge, but catching one well make all of that hard work worth it.
Come down to the Lower Florida keys with Captain Shelby Bentley and give us a try. You will fall in love with the flats and want to return year after year.
A simple phone call is all it takes to set you up for a day on the flats.
